Alfa Factory Recognition as Most-Winning Alfa

This car has an amazing competition history, and was the most successful Alfa Romeo to ever race in South America. In all, it won six National Championships in Venezuela, as well as several important races in Peru and Columbia. It has been recognized by the Alfa Romeo factory as the most winning Alfa Romeo to ever race in South America.

The driver was the legendary Giovanni Spadaro.

This Alfa Romeo started life as an Autodelta prepared GT Junior, as indicated in the documentation that comes with the car. Autodelta was the racing arm of the Alfa Romeo factory. The owner (Giovanni Spadaro) wanted to avoid the heavy Venezuelan import taxes on an expensive prepared Alfa Romeo GTA, so once the Junior arrived he set about converting it to GTA specifications using only factory Autodelta panels and parts. In fact many of these rare pieces are still stamped with the Autodelta factory markings.

Every panel was removed from the original car and replaced with an Autodelta factory lightweight aluminum racing panel. Then the car was raced with both a GTA Twin-Spark motor or an Angelini 16 valve motor depending on the track or the competition of the class.
The car also used a Colotti gear box for long tracks or a 'short' GTA box for tight tracks.

Either of these motors (Angelini or GTA ) with either transmission (a Colloti or GTA transmission) is available to the new owner at additional expense. It is currently equiped with standard unmodified 1.6 Alfa motor and five speed transmission, awaiting the new owner's mechanical modifications.

This Alfa was retired from racing in 1978 and Spadaro and his Italian mechnic, Abeli Cavicchioli flew to Milan to receive recognition from Alfa Romeo as having the most winning Alfa Romeo in South America.

The car comes with receipts and documents from Autodelta showing the car's transfer to Venezuela. It also comes with stamped and dated homologation papers.

The car is unrestored, and in the livery and lovely authentic patina in
which it was last raced in 1978.
