The extraordinary car presented here is unique in several ways. It was the first 1969 COPO 9561 Camaro sold in the Northeastern U.S., purchased new by drag racer Moe Delage from well-known performance dealer Scuncio Chevrolet in Greenville, Rhode Island. Equipped with an iron block 427/425 HP big block, it bore equipment common to many COPO cars, including front and rear spoilers, radio delete, special BE 4.10:1 rear end, curved-neck radiator and cowl induction. But unlike most COPO Camaros, it was also optioned with Rally wheels, rosewood steering wheel, D55 console with U17 Special Instruments and was one of only two painted in Burgundy.
Delage immediately had the car painted Root Beer Metalflake with lace accents, and installed a set of aluminum heads from Scuncio performance manager Bob Johnson, whose Bob Johnson's Racing Enterprises sponsored the car as it did so many others on the Northeast drag circuit. Known as "Moe's Ridge Runner" and also sponsored by Deb's Speed Shop, the car terrorized the competition in A/Modified Production.
Today the car is in spectacular condition after having been treated to a top flight restoration done to the highest standards. It shows just 3,884 miles, which is believed to be an accurate reading, and has been detailed to exacting standards to Concours condition, with exactly correct finishes, numbers and markings throughout.
