The collector car frenzy was alive and well this year at Russo and Steele’s Sports and Muscle in the Desert Sale.
Russo and Steele Gala Raises More Than $105,000 for Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Emily Center
Scottsdale, AZ. (Jan 24, 2008) -- More than 700 guests attended the 2008 Russo and Steele Collector Automobile “Motown Muscle” Charity Preview Gala on January 16th raising more than $105,000 for The Emily Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, the most comprehensive pediatric health library in the Southwest.Attendee’s were entertained by Dennis Rowland’s Motown Magic while sampling exquisite fare from fourteen of the Valley’s hottest chef’s: Asia de Cuba, The Bamboo Club, Bandera, Desero, The Phoenician, Bobby’s, Leccabaffi, RA, Sassi, Taneko, Wicked Backery, Different Point of View, and the Lone Star. The evening also included silent and live auctions, and a special raffle of… A Cartier Roadster Watch donated by Oliver Smith Jewlers, with a value of $5100, was sold for $5750 and a dinner with the HeartBeat Boys sold twice for a total of $4200. They performed 3 songs at the event and immediately following auctioned of a dinner for 10 with the band, HeartBeat Boys, in the live auction.
The event was chaired by Marianne Sanfelippo, vice chair was Jill Krigsten, and the Russo and Steele team and the Emily Center’s Fashion Show Committees participated in the planning. The emcee for the evening was Caribe Devine of Channel 12. Drew and Josephine Alcazar, owners of Russo and Steele, hosted the evening as the kick off to their four days of pure auction excitement. Notable attendees included Mary Manross, Mayor of Scottsdale; Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Tom and Kathy Anderson, parents of Emily Anderson – whom The Emily Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital was founded in honor of; and other “who’s who” of classic and hot rod automobile collectors.
Founded in 1990 The Emily Center is named after Emily Anderson. Emily fought a rare form of leukemia for four years before losing the battle a few days before her 7th birthday. Frustrated at the time by a lack of information about Emily’s illness, her parents founded The Emily Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital so families of sick children would have access to pediatric health information that is accurate, easy to understand and free of charge.
