Russo and Steele Presents ED “BIG DADDY” ROTH CREATIONS

Monterey, CA. (May 21, 2007) -- Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auction has announced that they will have two of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth creations in their Monterey, CA 2007 event. They recently sold Roth’s “Tweedy Pie” in Scottsdale 2007 for a record breaking $335,500 (record for a vintage Hot Rod). Nobody has ever had two Roth cars at a sale before and probably never will! Ed Roth is best known as the imaginative and innovative hot rod builder who valued the engineering and performance as well as the aesthetics of an automobile. However, he was an engineer before an artist and always prided himself on how well his creations worked. He was able to break new design ground with his Fiberglass bodywork. Making and taking his creations out of this world and into the Stratosphere.

"GLOBE HOPPER"
Roth’s "Globe Hopper" was his last and one of his most famous, and fabled creations. It is a hot rod looking, Porsche powered trike. It’s in perfect, untouched, original working condition.

Ed's "Globe Hopper" helmet, a 1970s Vietnamese Fighter Pilet Helmet all wired to the radio/cb/radardetector in Globe Hopper is autographed and will be included with the sale of the "Globe Hopper." This helmet is considered sacred and Smithsonian grade Roth collectible!

To prove his creation was sound Ed planed a trip to Alaska with Rat Fink (see below), another one of his creations, as his co-pilot. Ed ventured out intending on a possible side trip to Russia on the ice barrier. However, all that care about Ed talk him out of the side trip by convincing him it was probably a one way ride. Fitted with two gas tanks and a Vietnamese Fighter Pilot Helmet wired to the CB/Am-Fm radio and radar detector Ed makes it to Alaska and declares it's "Cooold!" He returns and repaints and flames the car, on his driveway, for an appearance on the Gidget show.

1976 Great Specked Bird
The hi-fi, science fiction inspired trike dubbed the "Great Speckled Bird." It is a type 4 VW powered rolling rocket that runs even better than it looks!
The “Great Speckled Bird” was donated to Harrah's Museum were it was on display for 25 years. It’s in perfect original, working condition and even has Ed's original California license plate on it.

Once again, Ed set off to prove his creation with a trip through Mexico to Ensenada with his son on the back. Ed installed a five gallon water tank and a windshield squirter on the front to mist and cool there bodies as they drove through the desert.

2007 Bubble Top Astro Sled
The latest and best Roth Tribute Bubble Top Hot Rod. Built by Roth inspired hot rod designer Dave Shuten. Dave is a rising star. The Astro Sled was a no expense spared million hour project. It features the ultimate hot rod motor a blown hemi: a 1957 354 C.I. Hemi with a Weiland Blower and 8 Stromberg Carburetors. Many other cool auto parts combined to make this unique creation: a 1957 Chevy rear axle, eight 59 Caddy lights, 55 Lincoln light, 60s Plymouth Speedo. This is a real piece of Hot Rod/Rolling Art.

2005 Rat Fink Chopper
This is a concept-prototype motorcycle. It is a very creative Roth inspired Tribute bike built by Rat Fink Choppers and featuring fiberglass work by long time Ed Roth associate Jimmy C. This was a big budget project and became one of the stars of the Ed Roth Tribute Display at the Detroit Autorama in 2006.

It has the very best components available in the motorcycle industry; including a 113 C.I. S&S motor with a 6 speed transmission. This bike works and runs as good as it looks, with capable speeds of up to 135 mph.
