The L-88 option package for the Corvette was the result of years of developmental work which resulted in a factory racing option package that could be ordered from Chevrolet in a brand new Corvette. The L-88 option was only available for three brief model years from 1967 through 1969. The L-88 Corvette was so potent, that it would not only allow the new owner or driver to win a race in local competition, but it also could propel a properly prepared Corvette to stunning finishing positions in world class International races, such as the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona. These racing victories with the L-88 option package, made the Corvette an overnight hit. The L-88 nomenclature became synonymous with Corvettes and with champions.
Although only 216 L-88 Corvettes rolled off the St. Louis Corvette Plant assembly line during these three model years, the L-88 created an image of power and prestige that would live on with the Corvette for decades.
Most of the race prepared L-88 Corvettes that competed on tracks in the United States and Europe are featured in my book, and so are the predecessors that led up to the creation of the L-88 factory racing option. These are the Corvettes that started the legend. These are the Corvettes that shaped a generation of Corvettes and Corvette enthusiasts, and they are the Corvettes that shaped the future generations of Corvettes.

This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L-88 has newer paint, a recent engine refresh and original interior and drivetrain. This L-88 was ordered new by Bob Holt of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was a Merchant Marine and had a friend who worked at Chevrolet. He told his friend he wanted the fastest Corvette available so this is what his friend ordered.
Bob drove the L-88 "Thunder Buggy" when not at sea and the current owners purchased it on October 19, 2004. The car immediately underwent a frame off undercarriage restoration but the interior and convertible top are all original. This L-88 was also displayed on the cover of Corvette Fever in January 2006 and included a complete story about the car.
Original documentation includes the Factory Window Sticker, Dealer Inspection and Adjustment Schedule, Michigan Title issued to Bob Holt, Owners Manual, keys, Warranty book and Protect-o-Plate. Also included is the 1979 Bill of Sale and Mileage Statement. There are several letters between owners concerning questions about the car and numerous invoices and pictures detailing the frame off restoration. There is a Classic Car Affirmation Certificates as to the originality of the trim tag, window sticker and the engine block and stamp pad.
This L-88 is probably one of the finest examples in existence. It has all the right equipment with the correct paperwork to verify its legitimacy. The original window sticker shows the Auxiliary Hardtop and very well could make this the only L-88 to come from the factory with both tops. One of only 20 Roadsters produced in 1968 featuring the earth shaking, tire shredding, asphalt burning L88 power plant!
